Anne of Brittany is the queen of France as wife of King Louis XII. She is also the duchess of Brittany in her own right.

Anne sends a glove to James IV, King of Scotland to mock his alleged weakness when England invades France in the War of the Holy League, believing that he has failed to uphold the Auld Alliance between Scotland and France. This goads King James into warring with England, which outrages his English wife, Margaret Tudor.
Anne later passes away, providing an opportunity for her husband to be wed again to Princess Mary of England.
